When sourcing a NEMA 17 stepper motor, provide the complete manufacturer model number rather than the frame designation alone. Motors with a similar external shape can have different electrical and mechanical requirements.
Build your component checklist
- Manufacturer and full model number.
- Rated phase current and the relevant datasheet.
- Shaft dimensions, mounting arrangement and available space.
- Required motion, load and operating speed.
- Driver model, power supply and controller interface.
Match the complete system
Motor selection should be considered together with the driver and mechanism. Follow the motor and driver documentation for wiring and current settings. Do not connect a motor directly to a microcontroller's signal pins.
If replacing an existing motor, share a clear photograph of its label, connector and shaft along with the machine model. Avoid choosing a substitute only by appearance.
